Album: Ziggy Alberts – New Love

Twelve tracks tell us all we need to know about Ziggy Alberts, and its opened our hearts like our airways, ‘New Love’ is beautifully apt and a stunning collection of alternative folk songs.

The album opens up with a short spoken word piece, setting the tone for this breath-taking collection of poetic folk pop sounds, and continues with its incredible title track ‘New Love’. Quite instantly bringing tears to my eyes, the soft and unfamiliar yet familiar voice of Ziggy Alberts sings about having to trust that new love will come to us. His warm and soft yet dynamic soundscapes support its short stories beautifully.

His lyrics and poetry are of another level, with songs such as ‘I’m With You’, ‘Where Does The Love Go?’ being stories of love, while ‘Responsibility of The Dreamer’ is a resonant poem of which its carefully spoken words are still echoing in my head. ‘Addicted’ expresses a range of emotions I’d struggled to pinpoint, which seems to be the theme of ‘New Love’. The Australian singer-songwriter has brought us magic in the form of twelve songs that all hit the spot, hit the nail on the head, fill a want and a need, and all touch the right chord.

‘New Love’ is his seventh studio album, marking a new chapter in his artistic journey, the album reflects on themes of second chances, self-worth, and the intricate tapestry of modern life. It is a spiritual sequel to ‘Laps Around The Sun’, born from the UK roads, and crafted with the intention of being played live. Ziggy explained; “The record, to me, has a message and meaning of a return to simplicity; that despite all life’s chaos and all that you know and how far you’ve come and grown as a person, your life can be led by magic and adventure – if you choose joy and choose to do good.”

Following the album, Alberts announced a global ‘New Love’ tour, with shows in the US, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, and luckily also the UK. On the 19th of October, Alberts will be touching down at Newcastle’s NX, we will see you down the front!
