Vestrock Day 3 is the day for the NEXT GEN-eration; lots of families and a more pop-infused programme. Nonetheless, we got some great bands to watch on the last day of Vestrock 2025, let’s find out what our NEXT GEN has in store for us!
The Chapel was once again the place to be for the alternative bands. We watched L’Orne, a slowcore/ shoegaze indie band from Rotterdam, which is known for its homebase of alternative bands and L’Orne is no exception to the rule. The music is dark, sometimes heavy but the influences of shoegaze took the upper hand. This band should’ve had a much larger audience and might’ve if they would’ve played the Friday, we very much enjoyed them, but we’re afraid the NEXT GEN wasn’t curious enough to check out L’Orne. Janet Livv got more luck here. She played a set of nice indie pop songs at the Novus and is clearly no stranger to the stage as she performed confidently with her equally confident band. With a catchy voice she brought a little something extra to her songs!
You might know of Irish indie outfit modernlove. who we interviewed at TRUCK Festival two years ago and left quite the impression, they’ve grown massively over the last two years which showed at Vestrock. Here’s another indie pop and rock band that shows that synths and guitar licks go hand in hand pretty smoothly. The crowd loved it and the wonderful weather did the rest. We continued with our Irish theme as Limerick-based folk outfit Kingfishr soundtracked our six o’clock dinner.
The band got quite some airplay in the Netherlands which got them quite the audience and Dutch fans. They made the right decision by kicking off their set with one of the instant crowd pleasers; ‘I Cried, I Wept’. It set the tone for their performance and we all surrendered to their stunning folk pop sound. An hour filled with Irish folk rock followed. We heard the influences of The Pogues and hints of Mumford & Sons yet most of all we heard a very enthusiastic Irish band that was having the time of their lives on the Vestrock main stage. The stage was perfect, but the timing could have been better. They could easily have been programmed just before the main acts on Friday or Saturday. To be honest Kingfishr was one of the reasons we decided to stay an extra day in Hulst and it did not disappoint. We can’t wait for the band to return to The Netherlands for a short tour later this year.
We left Vestrock tired but satisfied after having seen a host of great bands and acts, enjoyed the sunny weather, great food and tasty drinks. A warm thank you to the organisation and crew of Vestrock for putting on such an amazing event once again!
