April Round Up

Martial Arts – Too Much Fun

‘Too Much Fun’ is the great and unserious alternative rock release we needed to add to our playlists to give it a lighter hearted tinge. Add soft vocals and strumming guitar lines, an ever climbing crescendo and a powerful chorus and you’ve got the track that fully pulled us into Martial Arts’ musical catalogue. The release comes with a great music video and is taken from the band’s new EP.

Crimson – Money, Baby

The type of organised musical chaos that makes us want to drop everything and dance around the office is the type that Crimson released upon the world. ‘Money, Baby’ is funky, rocking, rolling, charming, and colourful and plays with strong riffs, hazy vocals and vocal harmonies as well a strong echoing instrumental parts. The young Brighton-based outfit is taking up their designated space within the modern musical industry and it suits them well.

Iona Luke – Existential

It wasn’t her hazy dream pop soundscape that pulled me in, it was her voice thick and sweet as honey that made ‘Existential’ an instant anthem, one we couldn’t help but listen to on repeat. Working with a changing rhythm and sound, pulling from genres such as indie, pop, and rock, the track is made up of chapters that weave together seamlessly and truly take us on a musical journey we’d like to never end.

False Advertising – Next Big Thing

This Leeds-based alt rock outfit never cease to amaze me and with ‘Next Big Thing’ they amaze once again, bringing a fast paced, heavy hitting soundscape with spoken and screaming vocals, combining a fast paced and highly energetic sound that is driven by frustration and anger and translates all the feelings I wasn’t sure how to express, False Advertising have given me the way to deal; a solo mosh pit through the living room as ‘Next Big Thing’ is stuck on repeat.

Loose Buttons – Come To Brazil

Wistful and ethereal, ‘Come To Brazil’ is an alternative pop gem that turns a classic fan sentiment into a sonic reality. As it soothes and sways, this dream-pop track offers a charming, calming escape, serving as the perfect introduction to the heartfelt artistry of the four New Yorker that make up Loose Buttons. On ‘Came To Brazil’ they share the rallying cry to explore the tension between delusion and devotion in chasing a dream. The new album is out on the 21st of August!

Maryn Charlie – Hit By Lightning

‘Hit By Lightning’ is the soaring alternative pop release that introduced us to Maryn Charlie, the track is a wandering pop track similar to some of the pop greats that know how to write earwigs that you can’t help but sing along to while doing your weekly shop even if you’ve not listened to the song for eons. ‘Hit By Lightning’ listens like a strike of lightning and is quite the addictive pop release.

Illumination Road – The Call

‘The Call’ is the third single by Illumination Road and it’s a charming rock release with stunning vocals and a heavily thumping, hard-hitting rocking soundscape that is solidly rooted within indie rock. Add a few layers of slick guitar riffs and you get the track that was inspired by Jack White and Green Day, built around a massive hook and those stunning vocals. ‘The Call’ contrasts upbeat sounds with darker themes of control and rebellion!

Dead Summer – Take it or Leave it

‘Got motion sickness from your changing mind’ is the lyrics we didn’t know we needed to howl along to, Dead Summer wrote the heavily, riffing and rumbling rock’n’roll track that hints at inspiration taken from Royal Blood and Queens of the Stone Age with its dark, filthy, and bass-y riffs. It’s the first single taken from the upcoming debut EP and if it’s anything like ‘Take it or Leave it’ it’s something we want, and need, to hear!

PØRTERS – Burning Soul

PØRTERS deliver a masterclass in modern blues rock with their latest single, a track that feels as expansive as it is intimate. The song’s soaring arrangement provides the perfect canvas for singer Maria’s powerhouse vocals, allowing her to command the spotlight with effortless grit and soul. As the track unfolds, it builds into the kind of warm, stunning soundscape that has quickly become the band’s hallmark, wrapping the listener in a rich wall of sound.
