seeTrees: “We blend inspiration from artists like George Harrison, Jackson Brown, and War on Drugs”

‘Easy Times’ is the latest release from Los Angels-based band seeTrees who are blending influences taken from classic rock, and Americana and bring in a hint of lyrical mastery. With the release of their latest feel-good track that celebrates the endo f trying times and anticipates easier days on the horizon we had to have a chat to get to know the band a bit better!

Hi! Could you introduce yourself, your genre, and your musical influences?
“Hi! I’m Drew Lawrence, lead singer and songwriter for seeTrees. Our style lives somewhere between the old and the new, blending inspiration from artists like George Harrison and Jackson Brown with modern indie bands like War on Drugs.”

What inspired you to start making music and what inspires you to keep going?
“I heard Pearl Jam on the radio when I was a young teenager. The song was ‘Daughter’. I knew the first time I heard it that I wanted to dedicate my life to telling stories, singing and performing like Eddie Vedder. As I got older my influences expanded to bands like Radiohead and Wilco. Making music is a challenge with yourself to keep growing and getting better at it – that’s what keeps me going.”

Where do you, in general, get inspiration for your music and songwriting?
“I get a lot of inspiration from processing the current social and political climate, my long-term relationship and getting out into nature. A good book always helps too!”

Who would you like to work with in the near future and where would you like to perform in the next three years?
“I would love to work with Adam Granduciel and it’s always been a dream to play the Hollywood Bowl – so I’m just going to put it out there.”

Which musical achievements are you most proud of?
“I was really lucky to have a song I co-wrote go up the charts. I’m really proud of ‘Jar of Hearts’ by Christina Perri. Honestly, coming full circle back to myself and re-committing as an artist has been one of the most rewarding experiences yet. I’m really proud of the seeTrees music – and I owe that to my producer, Luke Adams and the amazing team we have, including Jason Roberts on guitar, Aaron Stern on bass and Matt Starr – our touring drummer.”

What do you hope to achieve by releasing music with followers old and new?
“I hope they find themselves in it. I hope we keep them entertained and inspired.”

What are your plans for the rest of the year and what are some of your goals and dreams?
“We have quite a few shows coming up on the West Coast, then we head to the Midwest and the East Coast for a few shows this fall. It all culminates with our album release show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles Dec. 8th. We are going to keep releasing music indefinitely with hopes of building to small theatres in the next few years.”

Aside from music, what are some of your hobbies and interests, we’d love to know more about you as a person!
“I’m married to my beautiful wife, Sara, and we have 3 kids together! I’m a huge skier, snowboarder, hiker, and runner. I’ve run the LA marathon 4 times! I love to be outside as much as possible. I also enjoy a good Dodgers game.”
