Scottish post-punk and new wave icons Altered Images are set to take the stage at The Grove in Byker this Wednesday!
Formed in Glasgow in 1979 and famously championed early in their career by DJ John Peel, the band became one of the defining sounds of the early ’80s UK music scene. Fronted by the charismatic Clare Grogan, the group is heading to the North East for a special evening centred around their classic 1981 record, ‘Happy Birthday’, which they will perform in full alongside a selection of their greatest hits.
Concertgoers can expect an energetic set packed with shimmering guitars, infectious pop hooks, and nostalgic synth lines. Alongside live renditions of seminal album tracks, the performance promises crowd-pleasing top 20 anthems such as ‘I Could Be Happy’, ‘See Those Eyes’, and their massive title-track single ‘Happy Birthday’.
Doors open at 7pm at The Grove, with general admission tickets available for £33.00 for the over-18s event. Whether attending as a long-time follower who grew up with the post-punk era or as a newcomer eager to experience their vibrant sound, Wednesday night promises a fantastic celebration of iconic British new wave.
