A harmonious, lingering intro eases us into Skegss new single and video ‘Wake Up’. An artistic short film accompanies the latest single of the Australian surf rock outfit. Sharp vocals stand in contrast against the soft musical landscape. A landscape that is rather one dimensional, yet its emptiness is being filled up by the attention demanding vocals.
‘Wake Up’ is the bands’ third release of 2020 and shows their perseverance, the band won’t be put off by a lack of live shows and a crumbling world. Skegss reach out to their fans and pull them into a world filled with music and careful positivity. The trio formed in 2014 and charmed listeners and fans all over the world with their first few EPs, ahead of the release of their debut full length album. Their debut album, which was released in 2018, was more of an angry punk album but this new Skegss sound is one more refined and nuanced, something I personally prefer.
