VANT – I Guess I’ll End up Being One of Those People You Used as Well

One of the bands that we have been following for a while is back with a single and an album! We’re talking about Sunderland-born Mattie Vant who’s been through a fair share of highs and lows. His hip-hop inspired, sample-infused sound is warm and catchy and is shared ones again in the form of ‘I Guess I’ll End up Being One of Those People You Used as Well’.

During the pandemic, which left Mattie in a precarious position, he took refuse in his studio and wrote, performed and produced his latest album, entirely on his own. ‘Extinction Ballads’ is a thirteen track counting piece of reflective alternative pop and his most personal to date. Our favourite of the album would be the previously mentioned single, with a title that is easy to forget and or mix up. It is a festive and Blossom-like track with mumbling vocals, a synth-driven soundscape, and a rhythm that’s so catchy it’s hard to shake off after listening!

“‘I Guess I’ll End up Being One of Those People You Used as Well’ is possibly their most autobiographical and documents the constant self-questioning and doubt Mattie has been dealing with over the past few years.”
