Video: DMA’S – I Don’t Need To Hide

My favourite Australian Britpop band have returned with the release of their new single ‘I Don’t Need To Hide’. In their refined and smoothly produced pop sound hides an insecurity, a shyness, that always gets me. Having spoken to the band before, it is clear to me that the trio consists of simple people with a great passion, talent, and something to say. DMA’S‘ biggest strength lies in the extraordinary vocals of frontman Tommy O’dell, who hits every note effortlessly with his striking timbre.

‘I Don’t Need To Hide’ is another release that doesn’t shy away from the success formula the band have created for themselves. It is a celebration and an evolution by the band that have found their space in the modern musical landscape by creating an iconic and mythical status among their ever-growing fanbase. In their world, we are all accepted, free, and can be as expressive as we like. Guitarist Johnny Took comments on the meaning behind the single: “There’s a confidence you obtain when you find someone who loves you for all your faults, quirks and obscurities. They make you feel like you don’t need to hide anything from anyone anymore.”

The video expands on that feeling of euphoria by showing live footage and what it is like entering the world of DMA’S. It is one of the not many videos I have actually watched and it made me feel like I was back in the crowd at a DMA’S concert, where I felt like all burdens of everyday life fell off my shoulders.

“Thinking about a better time
Thinking about a better way to love
So I don’t need to hide
I don’t need to hide”

‘I Don’t Need To Hide’ is followed by a series of live dates in the UK in October, dates and venues below.

29-10 Roundhouse, London
30-10 Academy, Manchester
31-10 Barrowland, Glasgow
