Interview: Roe Byrne talks about upcoming headline show and plans for 2023

With Roe Byrne‘s headline show at The Sound House in Dublin coming up, and a very exciting 2023 in the pipeline, we felt it was the right time to sit down with Roe and get to know the young musician a little better!

Hi Roe! Could you introduce yourself and your music to us?

My name is Roe Byrne, I’m an 18 year old musician born and raised in Dublin and I have a huge passion for creating music & sharing my words with the world!

At what age did you start writing and releasing music?

I started writing music when I was 14 I think, and released my first single in the same year! I had a little EP that I sold on the street while busking with 3 originals and 2 covers so I’ve always loved sharing my music with anyone who would listen.

What inspired you to start making music?

When I was 10, I started playing the drums but realised I couldn’t sing or write very well with only knowing how to play a percussion instrument so I picked up the guitar when I was in first year and just fell in love with it. I’ve always loved music, I’ve always been surrounded by incredible musicians and incredible music so I suppose it was just in my nature to want to create some of my own.

What is it like being a musician and a student?

Honestly, it’s been brilliant, because I’m studying music, my teachers and classmates are very supportive and understanding when it comes to having to take days off for gigs and such. It’s a very supportive community in BCFE. It’s always great to have someone to go to if I have a question about the industry, especially when you know the person you’re asking has first-hand experience & knowledge in the field you’re talking about.

What are you hoping will come from your headline show?

Honestly, I just want everyone there to enjoy themselves. It’s going to be a great night of music, laughter and good craic! I can’t wait to perform my next single with a full band again, it went down really well the last time I played in The Sound House as a support act, and it’s finally near the time of release!

Have you got any big plans or dreams for the near future?

I absolutely do. Most things I can’t talk about just yet, but it’s going to be a very big year for me! I can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store for me, I’m going to be working so hard this whole year to make those dreams become a reality!
