Vaughty’s Favourites

Self-taught multi-instrumentalist and producer Vaughty moved to the UK in 1999 and has launched into 2023 with new genre-defying single ‘1984’. The single is the feature and title track of the five track EP that was released last month on Aggro Monkey Records. It’s a promising start by Vaughty and the perfect time for us to sit down and ask some burning questions!

Where do you discover new music?

I run my own YouTube Channel and Artist Development Consultancy so this means I get a lot of new music sent to me via email and social media.  My fans and followers are constantly sending me music for review and suggested listening. This means that I really don’t have the time nor the bandwidth to actively go out seeking new music.

What is your favourite place to write and listen to music?

As far as writing goes. I never try to write songs, They usually “appear” inside my head, often as fully fleshed out compositions. It’s very inconvenient because a great idea can hit me at the most inconvenient times. I am better when I am in flow and not trying too hard. As far as listening goes, I enjoy listening in my studio where the sound is balanced and well geared up to appreciate the music.

What activity are you unable to do without music?

Running and gym. If I am not listening to music when I am in the gym or exercising it makes the process really hard and unenjoyable.

What are your favourite things to do besides music?

I am basically a workaholic but I do love or should I say NEED to exercise because my life is very stressful. I spend most of my free time with my baby daughter Kara Annabella.

What are currently your ten favourite songs by emerging artists?

This is a very hard question to answer due to the number of new music I am exposed to on a daily basis.

I’d rather tell you what I am listening to a lot at the moment and that would be Royksopp, Chvrches, and Empathy Test. But ask me next week and this list will be different.
