July Round Up

Slow Coast – This Love I Learned

Southern California-based singer, songwriter and producer Matt Lawton is known to us as Slow Coast. As Slow Coast he recently brought us soft and upbeat alternative pop single ‘This Love I Learned’! The song takes a deep dive into the reasoning behind why we show our love the way that we do. Its sound is a softly swaying, warm and infectious indie summer one with a colourful hint at summer!

Tablefox – Only a Matter of Time

New Zealand alt rock outfit Tablefox have released another anthemic single with soaring vocals and a heavily thumping soundscape that reverberates summer and gives the song its sound that is so easy to remember! Their new single speaks to the narrative of people versus the system. Singer Clinton Bell wanted to explore the idea of how people band together in touch situations. “It’s about when the power of many fights back to take on any system of oppression, persecution or exclusion.” The band are supporting Inspiral Carpets for their NZ dates in August!

Ava Earl – Jealous of Her

Her voice is beautiful, her sound soft and refined, she’s addicted to writing songs and we’re addicted to listening to them. Ava Earl just released single ‘Jealous of Her’ which talks about coping with unrequited feelings. She writes from the heart and translates feelings many of us have into subtle pop songs with warm and simple soundscapes. “In many of my songs, I like to take real life inspiration, and elevate it to a place somewhat outside of reality, and that’s what I did with this song.”

Video: Kovacs x Till Lindemann – Child of Sin

We have always admired Kovacs, from the very first time we witnessed her mesmerising live show until the day she released her latest single and video in collaboration with Till Lindemann, ‘Child of Sin’. The chanteuse and the Rammstein-singer created a song that blends both of their styles surprisingly well and brings an eclectic theatrical rock sound with her beautiful and sharp voice in its midst!

Me Nd Adam – Best of Me

This grand and fascinating indie rock track emerged from a song writing session between Adam, Vince and George Gekas, also known as the bass player in The Revivalists. The song is driven by a filthy and sultry soundscape and hazy, harmonious vocals. The lyrical content of ‘Best of Me’ emerged after a glass of vodka and the rest is history… Or well, nearly! This, at least, has made for a great introduction to Me Nd Adam!

The Burning Feathers – Start of an end

‘Start of an end’ is the anthemic new stadium rock track by The Burning Feathers and it’ll hit the spot with fans of Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters with its soft vocals and hard-hitting soundscape! The song is coming in hard and fast and that’s what we were longing for, a welcome new sound on the scene, created by a West London-based band.

SOFY – Socks

A new and relatable summer anthem was released by vivacious pop songstress SOFY. ‘socks’ is an upbeat, uplifting and funky track with soft vocals and a pulsating beat that is hard not to bounce along to. Add some electrifying riffs and a simple, light-hearted visual to that and you’ve got an alternative pop hit that’ll be stuck on repeat for the foreseeable!

Curling – Hi-Elixir

A pleasantly chaotic, mind-numbing rock track was released by Curling. ‘Hi-Elixir’ begins loud and fanatic and slowly weaves into a warm rock track with soft vocals and a simple yet refined soundscape. They utilise all elements they can with distorted riffs and warm bass lines, the song surprises from the beginning until the end and takes you on a rollercoaster ride you want to jump on again and again.

The Palava – Useless

Will we ever get enough of indie rock? Probably not, and certainly not the fast paced guitar-driven rock sound The Palava create and release. ‘Useless’ is all but useless, it’s a warm and upbeat track, catchy as anything and with strong vocals leading throughout. The band believe it’s their best yet, potentially because of the fact that it was recorded at Lincoln’s Chapel Studio with Catfish and the Bottlemen engineer Pieter Rietkerk!

The One Eighties – Two Jet Planes

‘Two Jet Planes’ is the softest and sweetest new pop song I have heard in a while and it came at a time I needed it most. The One Eighties released a comforting and soft, understanding folk pop sound, it’s layered and a little lost, for it always to be found again. It’s about two people getting lost together in their own little world and drifting further and further into the abyss. “Sometimes you gotta crash to be free.”
