Dreamy, soothing, floating, Sarah Harmer has created another world for which she writes the soundtrack. ‘St Peter’s Bay’ is a peculiar story that seems to be set in misty, dark woods that in contrast aren’t eerie but are comforting. Singer songwriter Sarah is more than just that, she’s also an environmental activist and has won multiple awards. Does it shock me that I haven’t heard of her before? Yes, it does. However, it’s never too late to discover new artists and I’m happy it happened now, with single ‘St Peter’s Bay’. It’s taken from the album ‘Are You Gone’, which is due for release on the 21st of February.
This single is about the sum of the emotions that come with the ending of a relationship and the hardness of winter. “It’s a cinematic love-letter to wilderness and the depth of human feeling – with a surprising backstory.” Sarah: “The song is about the end of a relationship, set against the frozen shoreline of Lake Ontario. I thought what better way to start the record than with black white pioneer era sound, and a tale of love burning down to its final ember.”
