‘Soldier On’ is the new single and video of Dutch band DI-RECT, a chilling and incredible ode to the hope and strength of soldiering on. ‘Soldier On’ had me on the edge of my chair, staring out of the window contemplating life. While the goosebumps crept up on me, singer Marcel leveled up a notch with his crystal clear voice. A voice that breaks through the sound of the keys and speaks as if from above. The message and completeness of this song made me imagine if this would be what it feels like to have your heart ripped out of your chest and have it put back upside down…
It’s the good kind of chilling and the good kind of terrifying, DI-RECT is a band that has been around for a long time and they have created great things. ‘Soldier On’ just adds to that list of great things. I was, however, not completely convinced by the melody as it is rather repetitive and not very innovative. Even though the melody would not have had me on its own, the spotlight that shines on the vocals and the stunning video, made all my objections be washed away. Have a look for yourself.
