Swedish artist and singer songwriter Elina has released new single ‘Paper Planes’ and it sent chills down my spine. It’s a story of grief and hope that resonates strongly with some of my own memories. It is the rustic guitar sound that starts off the song and Elina’s spot on vocals that pull you right into her story. The talented pop songwriter sounds completely in control of her own sound and knows where to be headed. Elina tells us a little bit about her new single: “At the time, two people in my life that I love dearly and care about very deeply had recently decided to walk their separate ways after a long, long time. I feel I subconsciously steered the lyrics in the direction of their story.”
It’s the build up of the song that got me most, as from beginning to end the song is walking along a clear pathway. It’s more than a song, it’s more than the instrumentals in combination with the vocals, it’s a brief guided journey. It’s Elina’s first release of 2020 and will be followed by a debut EP in May. Elina does not only write her own music, but started a musical journey a couple of years back, writing hits for artists such as Zara Larsson, Astrid S and NEIKED. The talented young lass has got a lot in store for us, and I am more than excited to hear the upcoming releases to hear her growth as a solo artist.
