Swedish pop singer songwriter Ellen Krauss released her new EP ‘Pearl’ last week and on that you will find one of my new favourite upbeat pop tracks of this month. ‘New York’ is a warmhearted sunny-sounding pop song that follows previously praised singles ‘Bali’, ‘No Talk’ and ‘Silver Spoon’. Her latest single shines a bright light on her soothing voice that tells us the story of dreaming and following your passion.
It is a slightly repetitive track, however it’s chorus is infectious and has a hook to it that sticks with you if you want to or not. It is a lighthearted sound that shows Ellen’s musicality and way of bringing a little sunshine to any room. About ‘New York’ Ellen says: “The song is quite cocky, but that’s okay. It’s alright to be proud and think big sometimes.”
Krauss is only 19 years old and has already been awarded the Rookie Artist of the Year at the Denniz Pop Awards in Sweden, she’s been experiencing musically since the age of four and has been inspired by a diverse range of artists such as Ed Sheeran, Dire Straits and Bruce Springsteen. Plus her debut single being an LGBTQ acceptance anthem, she shows maturity in her own youthful way. “I want to look at what makes us similar,” Ellen says about her music, “and try and bring people together.”
