I don’t always appreciate artists reaching out to me via Instagram, purely because I have got an email address for new submissions… However, I’m glad that Jacob reached out to me to send me his new single ‘Pick Up!’. What I love most about getting in touch with emerging artists is to hear how they find new music, inspiration and influences! Read underneath.
Where do you find new music?
I tend to stumble across a lot of hidden gems through suggested tracks on Spotify & SoundCloud. Indie music channels on YouTube such as TheLazyLazyMe & David Dean Burkhart are also great for finding new music, I usually have their playlists on in the background.
Where is your favourite place to listen and write music?
Recently I’ve been spending a lot of time converting my dad’s old workshop into my personal studio space… It’s been quite enjoyable to play music whilst working on it. I imagine that’ll become my new home in terms of songwriting, “Pick Up!” is the first product to arrive from this whole process and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.
What activity are you unable do without music on?
There’s lots of things I can’t do or don’t enjoy without music, but some of the key ones would probably be to relieve tension or stress… Music is a great way to let loose and clear your mind of any negative thoughts and worries.
What are your favourite things to do besides music?
I don’t know if this really counts as a thing to do but I love being outdoors with my friends, whether it’s going out for casual stroll or taking a 300 mile trip to camp and explore mountains. If there’s fresh air and a cool breeze you can count me in every single time.
