Canadian singer-songwriter Jenny Kern sings of inner conflict and self-acceptance on her single ‘Coming Back For Me’. In the moody atmosphere she creates, the Brooklyn-based songstress realises and ultimately embraces her loneliness. In her own words, “‘Coming Back For Me’ is a song about solitude. It’s about being alone and learning to be okay with it. Especially during this time, with everything going on in the world. There’s a tension between the inner self and the outer world. How we learn to deal with our emotions, our experiences and our pain.”
With her velvety vocals, Kern explores her feelings and flaws as she accepts her own need to be on her own. Lyrically and compositionally, the single’s slow build ensures her final “No one’s coming back/coming back for me”s land spectacularly. Kern sings of loneliness in a way both devastating and arresting, and listeners find a capable singer not simply resigned to being alone, but fully embracing its necessity.
