EP: Davis Gestiehr – I’m Always Lying… Make Me Famous!

Nashville-based singer songwriter Davis Gestiehr released his EP ‘I’m Always Lying… Make Me Famous!’ and melds a brooding mix of indie rock and post-punk influences.

The intro of his new EP is the sultry and dark, Turner-esque ‘CCTV’, which builds on warm and addictive vocals and a ridiculously catchy rhythm. Instantly pleasing, satisfying our need for filthy rock’n’roll, we’re hooked to Gestiehr’s distinctive sound. Bass-driven and at times almost bluesy, we roll into ‘Marlon Brando (I Hate Yr Guts)’ which is slightly less subtle and a more indie and alternative inspired guitar-driven rock track. Enjoying his vocals, we find ourselves wondering where Davis has been the past few years, while we needed his delicious guitar licks and rocking vocal harmonies.

‘Courtney Love’ was the track that pulled us into this new chapter within our musical journey, a soft and slowly building love song shining a bright spotlight on Davis’ voice. “I’ve met someone I think I can love” is one of our favourite lyrics of the track, an honest and open-hearted telling of a feeling most of us recognise. Last but not least we arrive at ‘Follow you Down’ which is the slowest and most emotive alt pop track on the EP, this is almost heart-wrenching and we can only imagine the true meaning behind the track…

With every song, Davis provides an expansive artistic statement, which combines palpable pain and poignant song writing, to produce a dark yet sensitive landscape. Listen to ‘I’m Always Lying… Make Me Famous!’ below!
