‘DICHOTOMY (The Chosen Ones)’ was released in February, and it’s the genre-bending indie-pop trap fusion that introduced us to Gabriel Audee. In Audee’s own words, “it’s a way for listeners to pierce the veil and help them wake up”. It arrives at a time during which its message feels the most necessary, so we chatted to Audee about inspirations, achievements, and the future!
Hi! Could you introduce yourself, your genre, and your musical influences?
“I’m Gabriel, songwriter and producer born in Mexico raised in Colorado based in NYC. I make pop music with trap, rap, singer songwriter, R&B influences. My main musical influences are Max Martin, Benny Blanco, The Beatles.”
What inspired you to start making music and what inspires you to keep going?
“I heard “Cry for You” by September on the radio when I was 10. My musical creation journey started there. What made me wanting to keep going was when I finally found my flow and my own formula of making music that I want to listen to. I am my own inspiration and influence, because I don’t listen to a lot of music myself and when I do, it’s not for casual enjoyment like other people.”
Where do you, in general, get inspiration for your music and song-writing?
“I get inspiration from music and song writing when I get a random melody in my head then I record it on my phone. In addition, I often get concepts for songs or build a song from an instrumental.”
Who would you like to work with in the near future and where would you like to perform in the next three years?
“Id love to work with Drake, OneRepublic, Maroon 5, DEV, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino. Performing for me is like asking Max Martin or Benny Blanco to perform. Maybe one day I will bring all the artists I make music with and perform our songs.”
Which musical achievements are you most proud of?
“Being able to hear any instrumental and freestyle a whole song immediately, consecutively until writing hundreds of songs in one session.”
What do you hope to achieve by releasing music with followers old and new?
“I hope to get discovered one day and make music with different talents or for albums one day!”
What are your plans for the new year and what are some of your goals and dreams?
“My plan this year is to continue to release songs wit different talents! My dream is to make an album filled with the biggest stars in the world as collaborators; like a Calvin Harris album, or a DJ Khaled album, with the best songs I have ever heard that I worked on!”
Aside from music, what are some of your hobbies and interests, we’d love to know more about you as a person!
“I also love music videos! I want to direct my own one day!”
